Anatomy of the Female Urogenital System

Anatomy of the Female Urogenital System

Original Creator
Jourdain Guibelet (Unknown, France, Anatomist)

Original Creation Date

This engraving was part of Guibelet’s work in Trois Discours Philosophiques. It depicts an adult woman holding an apple while standing in a natural landscape with the abdomen and urogenital systems exposed. Guibelet challenged the traditional medical opinion affirmed by Aristotelian and Galenic thought that women’s bodies were a physiological aberration of male anatomy.
